Considered the birthplace of safari, travellers have been drawn to East Africa’s endless plains and remarkable density of wildlife for decades. For those seeking a luxury safari — look no further than Kenya’s famous Maasai Mara.
The open grasslands of the Maasai Mara allow for incredible sightings almost everywhere you turn. You’ll find all of the Big 5 — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo — along with hyena, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, zebra, countless antelope and scores of different bird species.
In South Africa’s Kruger and Sabi Sands reserves or Botswana’s Okavango Delta, the wildlife is quite literally in "the bush” and can often be difficult to see — which is not the case here, thanks to the vast savannas.
Sitting 1,000ft in the air, on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, sits Angama Mara, our flagship lodge. With glass-fronted tents, each with their own breathtaking view over the Maasai Mara, the en-suite rooms feature an extra long king-sized bed, double vanity, a personalised drinks armoire, bathtub, shower and private deck.
The lodge also comprises a cosy Guest Area for private meals and cocktails by the fire, along with a host of other luxury amenities and experiences…
Farm-to-Table: Take a lazy lunch in the garden with your own hand-picked fresh salads
Hot-air Ballooning: Float over the Mara and witness its abundant wildlife from above
Private Safari Vehicles: By reserving one, you can drive whenever you like, for as long as you like

Don't miss a private sleep-out experience
Angama Safari Camp, the lodge’s little sister, is a light footprint exclusive-use tented camp that sleeps just 8 guests down inside the Mara Triangle. Add a few nights to your stay here for a different, up-close experience with nature or mingle with the Great Migration during July-September.
Relax: Lie by the sparkling rim-flow pool or indulge in a massage in the privacy of your tent
Romantic Moments: Enjoy a private Out of Africa-themed picnic where scenes from the movie were filmed, perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries or birthday celebrations just for two

WHEN TO GO ON SAFARI
The best time to visit Kenya
Jan - March:
A lovely time for safari — the Mara is not as crowded and avoiding the Peak periods of Christmas and Easter, rates here are more favourable as well
April - June:
Sometimes called 'Green Season', the longer rains happen in April and May but do not prevent you from driving. This offers some of most intimate game viewing in the Mara with few crowds, lush landscapes — and a plethora of baby animals
July - Sept:
Peak Season, when the Great Migration is in town — 1.5 Million wildebeest and zebra travelling each year from Tanzania in search of fresh grass. With dramatic river crossings and kills,
this is the Mara at its busiest (and most expensive)
Oct - Dec:
Somewhat of a 'secret season' as the Migration can still linger but the crowds have gone home. The shorter rains happen at this time, but don't worry, you won’t get wet

Where else can we take you?
Perhaps you're interested in the iconic scenes of Super Tusker elephants on dry lake beds with Mt. Kilimanjaro standing proudly in the background? Then you'll love our newest property, Angama Amboseli.
Is a trek to see the gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park on your bucket list? The team has trekked both so they know exactly where to stay and how to do it.
Do you want to combine with the Serengeti, just over the border from the Mara, or the Ngorongoro Crater? We know just the spots to stay.
Or maybe you’d like to flop onto a white sand beach along the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean — our favourite properties on the Kenyan Coast will take great care of you.
Sitting just one degree below the equator, the weather in the Maasai Mara is always temperate, which is good for travellers and for game viewing any time of day or year. You'll also get to meet and interact with many members of the Maasai community, known for their bright red shukas, singing, dancing and jumping.
Formerly part of the British Empire, Kenya has strong infrastructure, connectivity and English proficiency along with high levels of service — in fact, in all of Safari Africa, Kenyans are most known for their kindness, warmth and authentic hospitality.

It is hard to find words to convey the beauty of Angama Mara...the views are just incredible. Add to that the warmth of welcome and care from all of the Angama staff, slick modern dining spaces, beautiful luxury tented rooms, amazing food and all the delights of the Mara on the doorstep, it really is a taste of heaven on earth. The highlights for us were the game drives with Tito, who has an incredible knowledge and passion for the natural world all around..."
